Children

Our cabin is ideal for a great family holiday. Why not bring friends or other family members along? There is plenty of space inside for play and relaxation. As well as being ideal as a children's bedroom, the mezzanine also offers lots of space for children's games whilst adults can relax downstairs. We provide a selection of children's books, games and DVDs. The mezzanine stairs have gates at the top and bottom so you don't have to worry about safety.

The cabin is  well-equipped, including a large fridge-freezer, microwave, washing machine and drying cabinet. We provide a high chair, travel cot and potty-so you can travel light.

Families are well catered for in Yllas, with plenty of activities available. English is widely spoken. The restaurants are family friendly and have childrens menus.

CHILDCARE
Available at both ski areas: Lastenpirtti at Yllas -Ski and at Peikopesa at Iso-Yllas (Sport Resort Yllas). English-speaking, friendly, qualified staff. Indoor and outdoor activities, somewhere for younger children to rest/sleep, tobogganning, a Lapp hut-your children won't want to leave. There is no need to book the service although you need to provide food, milk or drinks if necessary. They can also offer babysitting in the evenings in the cabin-book this through Lastenpirtti.

SANTA
Santa lives in his cottage at the Lapp Village, at the edge of Akaslompolo, within easy walking distance of our cabin. In December , when he is not out delivering presents, you can meet him in his cottage. He and Rudolph can even visit  our cabin to meet you.

SKI-ING
There are good ski slopes for children and beginners in general.
Children under 7 don't need a lift pass if they wear a helmet and are accompanied by an adult.
There are also family discounts on lift passes. There is a nursery slope at both resorts and plenty of easy (green) runs to learn on.
The good local ski-school offers group and private lessons. (Group lessons in English from age 5. You can pre-book private lessons if your children are a little younger)

OTHER ACTIVITIES
Most of the activities listed on the activities pages are suitable for families. Safari companies offer shorter versions of some activities which may be more suitable for younger children.

Children will love tobogganing which is available in the village. Short runs suitable for little ones are usually to be found at the Hotel Kaltio (very close to our cabin) and near the supermarket. There are toboggan slopes and toboggans to borrow at the Children's area at the slopes and at the Animal Park.

Toboggans can be bought cheaply at the supermarket-please don't just take them from outside shops and other places-they do all belong to someone!

The whole family will enjoy cooking sausages or toasting marshmallows over an open fire There are shelters with firepits in the village, near the nursery slopes and at the Children's play area at the ski centre; as well as on the cross-country ski trails.
